PETERSON BUTTERFLY GARDEN

 

Each year Environmental Studies and the Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy host an Annual Butterfly Count at Airlie. The Peterson Butterfly Garden is the focal point of a 15 mile survey area in Fauquier County. Results of this summer census are sent to the North American Butterfly Association (NABA) for research and publication. In 2002 surveyors identified as many as 30 species of butterflies in the gardens, meadows and woods at Airlie.
